The human being is not the lord of beings, but the shepherd of Being - Heidegger
As an author one of the hardest things for me to do is to convince people to read my books. I find it funny, I always wanted to be an author, but I never really wanted to be a marketer or sales person. This combination leads to a real lack of sales. Instead I have to find ways to get people to read my stuff.
It has become easier over the years because once someone reads one thing, they are more prone to trying another. So, you get this small snowball downhill effect from people who gave you a chance at some point.
I should have realized how hard it was going to be. For years before I wrote any books I had trouble getting people to read books that I loved. I have a tendency to fall pretty hard for certain books and I espouse their virtues from up on high, but only a handful of people will typically give them a shot. BUT! Just like with my books, once someone has taken my suggestions once, they make it a habit to listen to my opinion more often.

There is a new website that you can get suggestions from authors! You can look up authors (mostly smaller indy authors) and see what they have suggested as well as what they have read. I think this is ingenious as I have certain authors I follow and would love to know what they like to read.
I participated and here is my list of suggested books
They also have a search function where we can look up topics that interest us. Those who know me could probably figure out what I was searching for.
Kind of a rabbit hole, but it is fun!
